The Kristen Ann Carr Fund supports many programs through the generosity of its supporters. Click on a link below to learn more about the various programs and activities that support the mission of the Fund:

In the summer of 2000, Dr. Murray Brennan, chairman of the surgery department at MSKCC and a world-renowned sarcoma expert, spent an hour and a half talking about "Living with Sarcoma." But he wasn't speaking to a group of medical professionals. He spoke to more than 50 sarcoma patients and their families as part of the Post-Treatment Resource Program (PTRP), which the Kristen Ann Carr Fund supports. It was undoubtedly the largest gathering of sarcoma patients ever assembled in one room, which is in itself an achievement, and they really put Dr. Brennan through the mill. In the process, everyone learned a great deal.

Such momentous occasions don't happen every day. But as a result of KACF-supported programs at PTRP they happen regularly. Among other things, PTRP offers a sarcoma patients support group and Kristen's Coffee House, a chance for teens and young adults with cancer to meet one another socially.

The Fund's efforts in this area are headed by Karrie Zampini, director of PTRP, and Ilyse Gordon, a social worker and editor of Sarcoma Update.

The Post-Treatment Resource Program is a resource center for people who have been treated for cancer. Its unique combination of educational support services offers a wide variety of services assisting people in their adjustment to life as cancer survivors. Launched in 1988, PTRP supports cancer survivors in addressing the practical. psychological, social and existential concerns that are a normal part of cancer survivorship. Through its seminar series, of which Dr. Brennan's 2000 presentation was a part, MSKCC physicians and health care staff offer current information, research and opinions designed to update and stimulate fresh dialogue. PTRP also provides group, individual and family counseling and advice on insurance and employment issues.
